ATHENS WITH KIDS SURVIVAL GUIDE: WHAT TO SEE, THINGS TO DO

Are you visiting Athens with your kids? Athens offers a lot of choices for families and there is no doubt that you are going to have a lot of fun and enjoy your stay! Here are some activities and museums that will be appreciated by the whole family!

You are in Athens, of course you are desperate to see the Acropolis and the new Acropolis museum! But you don’t know how to please your children.. Well, there are some good news! The Acropolis museum offer specialized tours for families with young children so they can combine fun and education at the same time. Also the Museum of Greek Children’s Art is one of the very few worldwide that exhibits exclusively drawings and three dimensional artworks created by children 5 to 14 years old. Last museum but not least, your kids will love the brand new Museum of Illusionswhere you will enter the world of illusions and participate in amazing activities as a family! 

Apart from museums there are many other ways to have fun as a family in Athens! The beautiful bright red happy train is a great way to see all the major attractions in a funny way! It starts its sightseeing tour from the Constitution Square (also known as “Syntagma”) and follows an amazing route through the historical center of the city, the old neighborhoods and the hill of Acropolis. Another great way to spend quality time with your children is to stroll or even have a picnic in the National Gardens of Athens. Often described as an oasis in the heart of the city, you can rest for a while in the beautiful gardens or let your kids blend with local children at the beautiful playground inside the gardens!

Outside the city center you will also find great opportunities for families. Firstly, at Floisvos Park you will find a beautiful playground where locals love to go! You can also enjoy a beautiful walk at the nearby marina.  Attica Zoological Park is another attraction that children will absolutely love! It is the largest zoo in Athens and nearby cities and children can see from lions and Giraffes to doplhins shows! You can reach Attica Zoological Park by metro from Syntagma to Doukisis Plakentias (metro line 3 – the blue line) and then you can take the 319 bus lane which runs every 35 minutes from Doukisis Plakentias. Of course if you planning your stay in Athens during summer months there is no better way to spend your day than a day at the beach! You can easily reach some of the by tram or you can take buses from Panepistimio metro station. The buses are E22 (Academia – Saronida) or A2 (Academia – Voula).
